A terracotta anti-flood airbrick cover, designed to cover & defend both single & double airbricks.
β’ Tested to BS 851188-2019.
β’ Overall size of 325mm x 180mm.
Note: Your Airbrick Cover is not a permanent fixture. Under non-flood conditions, your cover should be cleaned & stored in a safe, dry space. This maintains airflow during non-flood conditions.
β’ Tested in accordance with the requirements of Bsi 851188 - 2019 to a flood depth of 600mm. This allows a leakage rate of 10ml per cover, per hour.
β’ Produced from aluminium sheet & closed cell EPDM foam, making it impermeable to air & water.
β’ Designed to temporarily cover masonry airbricks, but not to be used on steel air vents.
β’ Designed to be installed prior to a flood. Fitting during a flood event, or in a submerged setting, is not advised.
β’ Your airbrick cover is a manually installed product, using thumb screws to compress the cover into its anchor sleeves. Your seal will only work effectively against smoother faced masonry with flush finished mortar (not uneven stone or a raked mortar finish for example). A risk assessment from a flood professional can assess each aperture for suitability.
Application & Installation Preparation:
The cover can be installed against any existing masonry, brick, or plastic grillage, providing that the opening is no greater than 280mm x 140mm & is suitable to be defended. The existing air brick must be clean and free from loose material and obstructions, as should the surrounding wall face.
The pointing to the brick or masonry around the airbrick must be in good condition, flush & not cracked or broken.
A minimum of 20mm is required around the airbrick on all 4 sides, as this provides the area around which the cover will seal.
Your Airbrick Cover kit:
1 x Anti-Flood Airbrick Cover - 2 x Plastic Thumb Screws - 2 x Rubber Washers - 1 x 10mm masonry drill bit - 1 x drill hole template - Fitting/Maintenance Instructions
Step 1: Check the suitability of the existing airbrick, as well as the pointing. If needed, repoint the area (to a neat flush finish) first & leave to cure.
Step 2: Position your drill template to the wall, central to your airbrick. The two drill holes should be equidistant from the centre, lining up horizontally.
Step 3: Mark the 2 holes through the template.
Step 4: Using the drill bit provided, drill the holes approximately 45mm deep. Clean the hole out of dust & debris.
Step 5: Insert your nutsert into the hole, flush to the face of the brickwork.
Step 6: Fit your airbrick cover, inserting your thumbscrews through the washers & into the nutserts, compressing the seal by tightening. Don't overtighten & damage the nutsert thread.
Step 7: Post flood-event. Unscrews and remove the airbrick cover & gently clean all items (don't use harsh chemicals). Leave to dry and store in a safe dry place.
